Replacement Motor+Gearbox for Deployable Towbar

for Range Rover L405

This is a replacement motor+gearbox for the electrically deployable towbar on the Range Rover L405.

Unfortunately there are no spares available separately from Land Rover for the deployable towbar - so potential to repair a defective one is limited.

One possible failure (and probably likely) is the DC motor/gearbox assembly - we have managed to source these direct from the manufacturer.

The deployable towbar assemblies are very expensive to replace so trying a repair may be worthwhile before committing to purchasing a replacement.

We have carried out a strip-down and recondition of the towbar assembly which can be seen in the video below - we found a broken tooth in the gearbox was at fault.

You will need to unsolder the encoder which sits on the rear of the motor from your old motor and re-solder on to this new unit.

Note: in the video we needed to use force to separate the gearbox - you do not need to do this as you have a replacement unit (we didn't have this) so we advise you use an angle grinder and cut through the old gearbox.

This motor is sourced from the manufacturer so is exactly the same part as the original unit (OEM).

Part number on this item is IG32B0071-AWHL1R.

Please check your part is the same as this one before ordering.

These are not genuine Land Rover parts.

Fitting Details

See below strip down video (this replacement unit will make life easier than shown in the video!).

In the video we needed to use force to seperate the gearbox - you do not need to do this as you have a replacement unit (we didn't have this) so we advise you use an angle grinder and cut through the old gearbox. You should be able to then access the pins which are securing the gearbox in place from the inside.

Note: You will need to swap the encoder over from your old unit (this is located on the rear of the motor) - you'll need to solder this part.
