This is a genuine Land Rover tailgate release switch that can be used to repair the Discovery 3 and 4.

This part number is actually for a Range Rover Sport but the switch is the same as the Discovery 3/4 (just the wiring/connectors are different).

You will need to rework this switch by cutting the connector off and joining to your existing wiring.

You can use this switch as a repair rather than buying the specific part number for the Discovery which can run to over £400!

Just the switch was not available separately for the Discovery 3 - you had to purchase the whole switch/number plate lamp assembly.

They did make the switch available separately for the Discovery 4 but there are several different versions depending on your vehicle spec (reversing camera/surround camera) and they are all expensive.

This switch can be used to repair all years of the Discovery 3/4 from 2005 until end of production in 2016.

These switches often fail due to water ingress and the switch becomes unreliable.

The early switches had an aluminium "paddle" inside the switch and this is prone to corrosion that causes problems - this is the later design with plastic paddle so will not give a problem.

TIP: If you are stuck unable to get into your boot there is a little trick to open the tailgate - press the lock and unlock buttons on the dash at the same time and this will open the tailgate.

The handle fits in the centre of the tailgate underneath the two number plate lights.

This is a genuine Land Rover item.
